Fruit and vegetables are an essential part of a balanced diet, helping us stay healthy and strong. That’s why it’s so important we get enough of them – and we’re here to help you and your employees lead healthy lifestyles in a healthy workplace.

The ‘5 A Day’ message is promoted by the World Health Organization, who recommend eating five 80g portions of fruit and vegetables every day – or a minimum of 400g in total. This alone can minimize the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity.

And if you need more reasons to enjoy fruit and veg, here they are:
Fruit and vegetables are a good source of vitamins and minerals, including folate, vitamin C and potassium.
They’re an excellent source of dietary fibre, which helps maintain a healthy gut, and prevents constipation and other digestion problems.
A diet high in fibre can also reduce your risk of bowel cancer.
They can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers.
Fruit and vegetables contribute to a healthy and balanced diet.
They taste delicious! And with so many different varieties to choose from, there’s something for everyone.

To make the most of your ‘5 A Day’, your five portions should include a variety of fruit and vegetables. This is because they all contain different combinations of fibre, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. The best part is, it doesn’t matter if they’re fresh, frozen, canned, dried or juiced. However, it’s important to remember, potatoes and cassava don’t count as they mainly contribute starch to the diet.
